Foundation Beyond Belief

Ifbb2‘ve commented before that atheists have very few social opportunities for altruism compared to the religious community. The non-religious can be just as benevolent, certainly among my own friends and family, but atheists lack the social structure and community inherent at church.

My favorite charity is PLAN, a non-profit organization endorsed by James Randi. Sign up to sponsor a child, and see your money go to making that child’s community better with clean drinking water, modern medicine, and other humanitarian projects.

The big news this week is that the folks at Parenting Beyond Belief have put together a non-profit organization specifically for atheists, agnostics, and humanists – FOUNDATION BEYOND BELIEF. It’s not up and running just yet, but you can show support by clicking on the previous link and joining their cause on Facebook. The best part is that the money will go to your choice of ten different charities that are selected each year. You know that the committee at FBB will be picking quality charities that won’t proselytize or waste your money.

Word up to the babes at Rational Moms who scooped me on this.
